20 December 1922 – Japan recognized Lithuania de jure.
6 September 1991 – Japan recognized the Republic of Lithuania de jure.
10 October 1991 – Diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Japan were re-established.
May–December 1992 – Yoshifumi Matsuda served as the first Ambassador of Japan to Lithuania (resident in Russia).
2001–2006 – Algirdas Kudzys served as the first Ambassador of Lithuania to Japan.
26 October 2022 – During a meeting in Tokyo between Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonytė and Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida, Lithuania and Japan announced the establishment of a Strategic Partnership.
