“Varpelis” choir from Lithuania will perform in Japan

Kaunas Boy‘s and Youth Choir “Varpelis” directed by Ksaveras Plančiūnas, is coming to Japan in November. 

”Varpelis” choral performances will be held:

On November 17th 18:40 in Tokyo, Edogawa, Tobu Friend Hall.

On November 18th 14:00 in Kunitachi city, Concert Hall of Kunitachi College of Music Junior and Senior High School.

On November 20th 18:30 in Plala Family Center.

On November 22th 13.00 in Chorus Festival in Takahashi, Okayama, Takahashi Composite Culture Hall.

Widely known in Lithuania and abroad choir’s “Varpelis” repertoire varies from classics of Johann Schtraus, Johann Sebastian Bach, to works by Lithuanian composers – Giedrius Kuprevičiuus, Balys Dvarionas, Vytautas Klova, Antanas Adomaitis, Darius Polikaitis, Jurijus Kalcas and Lithuanian folk songs which reveal unique and rich music tradition of Lithuania.

This year the choristers of “Varpelis” participated in meeting-concert with Girls´ Choir of Kunitachi College of Music and in premiere of cantata “Eternal Sakura” by Atsuhiko Gondai and Saigyo Hoshi, which was dedicated to commemorate Japan‘s former Honorary vice-consul to Lithuania Chiune Sugihara, Righteous Among the Nations.  

In 2014 “Varpelis” participated in joint Lithuania-Japan artist project “Sakura Memories” in Lithuania, National Kaunas Drama Theatre.
