Tribute to Ch. Sugihara in Numazu and Tsuruga

Ambassador G. Varvuolis attended the unveiling ceremony of the monument dedicated to Yukiko and Chiune Sugiharas in the city of Numazu, Shizuoka prefecture, organized by reverend Sohaku Matsushita in collaboration with local authorities and with participation of representatives of the Embassy of Israel. In his address G. Varvuolis expressed appreciation that the number of memorial places related to Sugihara's legacy and knowledge about Lithuania is growing and spreading across Japan. He noted that this particular monument is a special tribute to the couple of Chiune and Yukiko Sugihara, and stressed the support which Chiune Sugihara received from his wife.

In his conversation with the town Mayor, Ambassador discussed the possibility of establishing cooperation links with similar municipalities in Lithuania.
Ambassador G. Varvuolis also attended the pre-opening ceremony of Port of Humanity Tsuruga Museum.
In his address G. Varvuolis pointed out that legacy of Sugihara continues to live in our times, connecting as a bridge, countries and people.

The ceremony was also attended by Ambassadors of Israel and Poland, Deputy Head of Mission ot the Dutch Embassy, Fukui Governor T. Sugimoto, Mayors of Tsuruga and Yatosu towns and the representative of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
