The Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra Begins Tour in Japan

The Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra (artistic director and chief conductor Juozas Domarkas) kicks off its Japan tour with the first concert at Saporo Kitara Hall today, June 3. This tour comes after 11 years break.




The Orchestra will perform under the popular Japanese conductor Tomomi Nishimoto who led the opening concert of the major Lithuanian music festival Vilniaus Festivalis earlier this year. Two concert programs will feature the famous South Korean soprano Sumi Jo and a talented Serbian pianist Tamara Stefanovich who was the guest of Vilniaus Festivalis 2010.



The concert programs include the popular classical music pieces - symphonic suite Scheherazade by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Boléro by Maurice Ravel, piano suite Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky, Piano Concerto in A minor, Op.54 by Robert Schumann, as well as arias and overtures from operas by Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini and operettas by Johann Strauss and Jacques Offenbach.

The Orchestra will perfom a total of 21 concert including two shows at Tokyo Suntory Hall. The geography of the tour  spans from Hokkaido to Kyushu.
