Sapporo Hosts Photo Exhibition UNSEEN LITHUANIA to Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Lithuania’s Independence

A photo exhibition UNSEEN LITHUANIA by Marius Jovaisa will be exhibited in Sapporo Municipal Hall from September 6 to 10 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of restoration of Lithuanian independence.

Ambassador Dainius Kamaitis and Honorary Consul Hidekatsu Fujii will open the exhibition at a solemn ceremony on September 6.

The exhibition features 38 large size photography works, selected among some 20,000 shots originally taken for the photo album, published in 11 languages, including Japanese. Marius Jovaisa consulted with geography and ethnology experts and then spent almost a year shooting famous and less known Lithuanian landscapes, including UNESCO world heritage sites, historical and contemporary cities, villages or just shapes and textures of the land. The works reveal the author’s deep love to his homeland and strive to share its beauty with the people around the world.

Having toured in Europe, set foot in Latin America, USA, Canada and Australia, Unseen Lithuania came to Japan last year. It traveled in the major islands of Japan and was shown in Tokyo, Miyazaki and Kochi.

The exhibition is organized by the Embassy of Lithuania, Lithuanian Honorary Consul in Sapporo and Unseen Pictures Ltd. and is sponsored by Fujii Bldg., supported by Hokkaido municipality, Sapporo municipality and Sapporo Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
