Prime Minister of Lithuania Visited Japan

Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius paid a working visit to Japan on 19-23 September. The main purpose of this visit was to discuss with members of the Japanese Government development of bilateral relations, possible joint projects in the future, as well as to introduce the progress of the Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) project and to learn more about the advanced nuclear technology in Japan.
A. Kubilius held meetings in Tokyo with the Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Yukio Edano, from whom the assurance of solid support regarding the Visaginas NPP Project and Hitachi's participation in it was heard, including in safeguarding of necessary financial instruments.
In addition, the Prime Minister attended the meetings with Japanese business and academia, where the challenges of energy and economic and financial situation of the world were discussed. A. Kubilius introduced to Japanese businessmen the investment opportunities in Lithuania and the Nordic Baltic region, presented the Lithuanian economy and energy policy.
Lithuanian Prime Minister also visited Hitachi Ltd. factories in the city north of Tokyo, where the nuclear power plant steam turbine, similar to that which will be built in Visaginas NPP was demonstrated. A. Kubilius had a trip Shimane nuclear power plant as well.
