Presentation of the State Decoration of Lithuania to Hirofumi Nakasone, Member of the House of Councillors of the Diet of Japan
On the occasion of the Day of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania, for merits to the Republic of Lithuania and fostering friendly relations between Lithuania and Japan, H.E. Valdas Adamkus, President of the Republic of Lithuania, conferred State Order for Merits to Lithuania on Hirofumi Nakasone, Member of the House of Councillors of the Diet of Japan and chairman of the parliamentary Japanese-Lithuanian friendship group. Up to now, more than a dozen of the Japanese nationals have been awarded with the Lithuanian State Orders and Medals for their activities in the fields of culture, science, education and journalism. However, this is the first time that the state decoration of Lithuania was conferred on the active Japanese politician. The official ceremony of the presentation of the Cross of Officer of the Order for Merits to Lithuania to Hirofumi Nakasone, performed by Dainius Kamaitis, Ambassador of Lithuania to Japan, was held at 14:00 on February 14th, 2007, at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania.
