LITHUANIAN PHOTOGRAPHERS’ WORKS AT THE TOKYO METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY

From August 9th to 24th the Kiyosato Museum of Photo Arts will be holding international exhibition of photography „Basically. Forever“ at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography to commemorate the 20th anniversary of its opening. The exhibition will consist of 500 works from 44 countries. This project, which has won the 2004 Photographic Society of Japan Culture Promotion Award, is highly acclaimed both at home and abroad.

Every year a lot of young photographers from all over the world participate at the exhibition. According to the organizers, countless of the young and upcoming talents go unnoticed so this project gives a great opportunity to show off their creative skills. In order to support young people’s development, selected works are acquired for the museum’s collection. This year the competition is open to all artists until the age of 35.

The current collection also includes works of two Lithuanian photographers: “Society” by Ramūnas Danisevičius and "...about Tree" by Ruslanas Baranauskas (2002).

„We are so proud that Lithuanian art of photography has been internationally recognised by professionals and Japanese fans of photography”, - said Ms. Violeta Gaižauskaitė, Minister Plenipotentiary of the Lithuanian Embassy in Japan.

The works are not limited to any particular genre, style or theme in order to reveal the individuality and originality of the photographer. All artists could submit 50 single or a series of photographs. Works that have been submitted are judged by some of Japan’s leading photographers: the museum’s director Eikoh Hosoe and two other judges - Daido Moriyama and Masato Seto.
