LITHUANIAN MOVIE “NARCISSUS” ATTRACTED GREAT ATTENTION FROM THE AUDIENCE IN TOKYO
Lithuanian film “Narcissus”, directed by Dovilė Gasiūnaitė, was presented twice to Japanese European films' lovers during EU Film Days in Tokyo on 8 and 13 June. A 2012 film, based on Greek mythology, tells the story of a handsome and gifted string quartet cello player, whose lack of empathy and self-obsession hurts everyone around him.
On 13 June film's director D. Gasiūnaitė attended the screening herself and gave a short talk about the film and answered the questions from the audience. Japanese were asking the director how she came up with the idea of the movie and were especially interested in her choice of the main character, Teodore. The film was particularly praised for its music and cinematography, revealing the beauty of various places in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.
Yoshiro Irie, a film curator of Tokyo's National Film Center, was also sutisfied with the success of the film.
EU Film Days in Tokyo are organized by the Delegation of the European Union in Japan, together with the Embassies of the EU member states in Japan and Tokyo's National Film Center. This year in its 12th edition, EU Film Days have brought together 23 films, introducing the diversity of European culture to audiences in Japan.
