Lithuanian laser recognized as world’s best scientific laser

World’s first tunable wavelength laser NT200 produced by EKSPLA (www.ekspla.com), the Lithuanian ISO9001 certified manufacturer of lasers, laser systems and components for R&D and industrial applications, received the world’s best Scientific Laser award at the prestigious 2010 Prism Awards for Photonics Innovation in San Francisco in January.

EKSPLA’s NT200 laser was competing with 16 other finalists from General Electrics and other global leaders of the industry, all of them divided into nine award categories: Defense and Security, Detectors, Sensing, Imaging and Cameras, Industrial Lasers, Information and Communication, Life Sciences and Biophotonics, Optics and Optical Components, Other Light Sources, Scientific Lasers, and Test, Measurement and Metrology.

The NT200 laser, the first of its type on the global market, was chosen for the best Scientific Laser award among the lasers of Coherent Inc. of the US and MPB Communications of Canada in cooperation with the European Southern Observatory. EKSPLA’s laser has been widely demanded and is already in use in R&D centres in the US, Japan, Switzerland and South Korea.

The 2010 Prism Awards, sponsored by the international society for optics and photonics (SPIE) and Photonics Media, recognize photonics products that break with conventional ideas, solve problems, and improve life. Finalists and winners are chosen by an independent panel of industry experts.
