Lithuanian Honorary Consulate Opens in Osaka

On June 4, the new Lithuanian Consulate led by Honorary Consul Takeo Obayashi was opened in Osaka. Representatives of the Osaka Prefecture and City governments, diplomatic corps and honorary consuls based in Osaka, as well as business and mass media circles were present at the ceremony. In his welcome address, Lithuanian Ambassador Kamaitis noted that it was after Lithuania joined the European Union that the Lithuania-Japan relations began to flourish. The recent developments are especially remarkable - the historic visit of Their Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko in 2007 was a clear highlight of the rising bilateral relations. Lithuania which has just entered the second millennium of its history is very much interested in developing sound economic relations with Japan, especially with the Kansai area which is one of the world's productive regions.  Takeo Obayashi is the board member at Obayashi Corporation. It was founded in 1892 and is one of the five biggest construction companies in Japan. It runs business projects in South Eastern Asia, Australia, the US and Europe, and is on the list of top 20 construction companies in the world. Honorary Consul Obayashi will represent Lithuania in Kinki, Chugoku, Shikoku and Kyushu regions.
