Lithuanian Embassy participated in the Tokyo International Book Fair

For the first time Lithuania participated in the Asia’s leading publishing trade fair - 15th Tokyo International Book Fair (TIBF) held on July 10-13 at the International Exhibition Centre Tokyo Big Sight.  Embassy of Lithuania in Japan shared the booth with the Publishers Association for Cultural Exchange, Japan (PACE), which has participated at Vilnius Book Fair in 2005-2007. The Lithuanian booth at TBIF 2008 presented a collection of selected books on Lithuanian history, culture, arts and children literature, as well as CDs of classical and contemporary Lithuanian music. For the list of the exhibits please check here.   The Lithuanian/PACE booth welcomed about 1000 visitors in four days. Both professionals and other visitors admired the high quality of contents, design and printing of all the publications from photo albums to promo materials. The Japanese publishers showed particular interest in the illustrated books for children by acknowledged Lithuanian illustrators Kestutis Kasparavicius, Sigute Ach, Rimvydas Kepezinskas.   The visitors of the booth spared time to study the entire exhibition and the advertising materials of the major international cultural events to take place in Lithuania next year – “Vilnius – European Capital of Culture 2009”, Vilnius Book Fair and the Millenium of the mentioning of the name of Lithuania.   The Lithuanian Embassy’s participation at the TIBF 2008 was supported by the Ministry of Culture of Lithuania, Lithuanian Publishers Association, Lithuanian Institute, public institutions “Books from Lithuania”, “Music Information and Publishing Center”, Japanese Publishing House “Young Tree Press”, Lithuanian students in Japan Andrius Gelezauskas, Simona Sobutaite and young Japanese-Lithuanian translator Miyuki Akita.
