Lithuanian Director Kristijonas Vildziunas Will Present His Film at “EU Film Days 2008” and Nihon University on May 22-27
The 6th edition of EU Film Days launches today, May 16, at the National Film Centre, the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo. Twenty-one films will be shown each twice during a three-week period from May 16 to June 5 as part of the 2008 EU-Japan Friendship Week. This collection represents 19 of the countries of the European Union's 27 Member States. Since its launch in 2003, the annual EU Film Days has aimed to highlight the diversity and distinction of European filmmaking. Lithuania takes part at the event since 2006. This year a film by Kristijonas Vildziunas “You am I” (“Aš esi tu” 2006, 90 min., Studio Uljana Kim and Pandora Film,Germany, production) was selected to represent the contemporary Lithuanian cinema. The director will attend the premier screenings in Japan and hold talk events on May 22, Tue, 15:00 at Cinema 1 May 27, Thu, 18:00 at Cinema 2 The film tells a story of a lonely architect who takes the last chance to change his life. He quits his office job, moves a deep forest and builds up a tree house of his dreams. However, he feels the void creeping into his heart… The movie is about a journey to the source of sadness and joy, embracing loss and love, dissolution and hope, reality and imagination. Happiness is not lost until the dream of it is alive. “You Am I” was screened at the official program “Un Certain Regard” at Cannes International Film festival in 2006. Since then it has been demonstrated at more than 30 international cinema festivals and cinema events around the word and was awarded several prizes.
