On 6 May, Linas Linkevičius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, being on an official visit in Japan, and Fumio Kishida, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, held an official opening of the Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture.

The Honorary Consulate is headed by Shigehiro Komaru, the president of Fukuyama Transporting, the largest logistics company in Japan.

“Appointment of this well-respected and experienced businessman as the Honorary Consul of Lithuania will certainly contribute to the development of cooperation between Lithuania and Hiroshima Prefecture,” said Linas Linkevičius during the opening ceremony. The ceremony was also attended by the Mayor of Fukuyama City Naoki Edahiro.

The heads of Lithuanian and Japanese diplomacy welcomed good bilateral relations – the remarkable common projects in the field of life sciences and laser industry, growth in bilateral trade, intensifying people-to-people contacts and tourism, as well as discussed further plans for the development of cooperation.

The Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Fukuyama is the third in Japan; the other two operate in Sapporo and Osaka.
