LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR PRESENTED CREDENTIALS TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES
On 11 June Lithuanian Ambassador Dainius Kamaitis presented credentials to the President of the Philippines Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. The ceremony took place in the official residence of the President - the Malakanian Palace. During the conversation with the President D. Kamaitis expressed Lithuania’s willingness to strengthen bilateral ties and reminded about Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus’ invitation to the President to visit Lithuania. D. Kamaitis also noted that Secretary for Transport and Communications of the Philippines is awaited at the ASEM Transport Ministers meeting that is organized in Vilnius in autumn 2009 on Lithuania’s initiative. Both countries are ASEM members. After the ceremony Ambassador D. Kamaitis laid a wreath at the monument of the national hero Jose Rizal. Lithuania and the Philippines established diplomatic relations on 15 December 1991. Ambassador D. Kamaitis residing it Tokyo is the second Lithuanian ambassador accredited to the Philippines.
