Lithuanian Ambassador meets with President of Singapore, discusses ways to strengthen business relations
On 22 October, the Ambassador of Lithuania to Japan Egidijus Meilūnas presented his letters of credence to the President of Singapore Tony Tan Keng Yam. After the solemn ceremony, a conversation between the Ambassador and the President took place. The officials examined the possibility to intensify the development of relations between the two countries, to start closer cooperation in the fields of science, technology and innovation, to promote cooperation between universities and youth exchanges.
The Lithuania-Singapore cooperation and mutual support within international organizations were also discussed at the Ambassador’s meeting with Deputy Secretary International Peter Tan.
The meetings with the Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Business Federation Ho Meng Kit and representatives of the Ministry of Trade and Industry focused on ways to strengthen business relations between the two countries, the possibility to exchange business and scientific missions, and the EU-Singapore economic relations.
The Lithuanian sectors of life sciences, biotechnology and lasers were presented during these meetings. Moreover, the Ambassador invited representatives of the Government of Singapore, scientific and business organizations to take part in the largest conference and exhibition of life sciences in Northern Europe - Life Sciences Baltics 2016 – to be held in Vilnius this September.
The Ambassador also visited the National University of Singapore (NUS) and agreed with NUS representatives to intensify scientific relations and student exchanges with Lithuanian institutions of higher education.
