Lithuania Signed a Multilateral Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement

On 26 January in Tokyo Chargé d'Affaires Albert Algirdas Dambrauskas signed on behalf of Lithuania an Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement of the European Union and its Member States, Australia, Japan, the United States of America, the United Mexican States, Canada, Republic of Korea, Morocco, New Zealand, the Republic of Singapore and the Swiss Confederation (hereinafter - the Agreement).
On behalf of the European Union the Agreement was signed by Danish Ambassador to Japan Carsten Damsgaard and the EU Delegation Ambassador Hans Dietmar SCHWEISGUT. Totally it was signed by the 22 EU Member States.

This
Agreement facilitates international
fight against trademark counterfeiting and copyright piracy which undermine legitimate trade and the competitiveness of the European Union, have a negative impact on economic growth and job creation. ACTA provides the latest intellectual property rights enforcement provisions, including provisions on civil, border and other measures.
Negotiations for this Agreement started on 3 June, 2008 after the Council adopted the negotiating directives on 14 April, 2008. The text of the Agreement was adopted on November 15, 2010.
