Lithuania represented in EU Film Days in Japan

Lithuania was represented at the EU Film Days in Japan by a documentary „The Ancient Woods“ . The author of the film Mr. Mindaugas Survila attended the screenings at the National Film Archive in Tokyo on June 2 and 5 and gave a guest talk. Lithuania‘s participation in the EU Film Days was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and the Embassy of Lithuania in Japan.

It is the 50th film festival for „The Ancient Woods“, the film has been screened in 27 countries. Lithuania traditionally participates in the EU Film Days in Japan – in 2018 that was a movie „Emilija“.

„The Ancient Woods“ will be screened in other cities in Japan:

Kyoto - June 23 (Sunday) at 17:00 and June 26 (Wednesday) at 13:30,
Fukuoka - July 18 (Thursday) at 11:00.

Filmed in one of the last remaining patches of old growth forest in Lithuania, "The Ancient Woods" is a place where the boundaries of time melt and everything that exists does not wither or age but “grows into” eternity. A poetic and atypical nature film takes its viewers on the endless journey – from the forest thickets to the wolves’ caves and up to black stork’s nest, and then deep into the water to the underwater forest, returning after to the human beings inhabiting the edge of the woodland. There is no commentary, only rich, almost palpable sounds of the forest and the magical situations captured by the camera.
