Lithuania-Japan Architecture Forum Dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of the Re-establishment of Bilateral Ties Kicks off in Tokyo

On June 1, in the very neighbourhood of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, the joint Lithuania-Japan architecture exhibition was opened in the Gyoko-dori Underground Gallery. It is a part of bilateral forum of architecture known as “East-East”, and a pre-event to the 24th International Union of Architects (UIA) Congress in Tokyo to be held in September this year.The Lithuanian architecture is being introduced in Japan for the first time. Ten Lithuanian architects and ten students of architecture will take part in the 3rd Lithuania-Japan Architecture Forum “East-East” which wraps up on Saturday.  The event marks the 20th anniversary of re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Japan.  Later in the day, a reception for the EAST-EAST 3 participants and organizers was hosted at the Lithuanian Embassy. At the outset, the Lithuanian Ambassador Kamaitis noted that the bilateral exchange which started almost a decade ago has become a tradition. After two successful events in Lithuania, the third forum has been opened in Tokyo.The Lithuanian architects were among the first ones to demonstrate friendship and solidarity with their Japanese counterparts after the devastating earthquake in March. At the reception, a piece of art representing revival and hope by graphic master Egidijus Rudzinskas was presented to the JIA President Ashihara in token of amity.
