Lecture by the Librarian of Vilnius University, Ms. Viktorija Rybakova

On October 7, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Central Library, Lithuanian artist, librarian of the Graphics Department of Vilnius University Library, Viktorija Rybakova spoke about the research on the collection of Western books illegally smuggled to Vilnius University library during the Cold War and later in the period after the restoration of Lithuania's independence.

The collection was madecreated during the period from 1968 to 2018 by Genutis Martynas Procuta (1933-2018), a Canadian Lithuanian, a professor at the University of Ottawa, and a philanthropist, who sought to help compatriots isolated by the "Iron Curtain" and constantly sent modern academic and other Western publications to his homeland.

V. Rybakova documented her research in the form of the artist's book called "Shared Knowledge". This is a catalog of the books, selected from the collection, reflecting on the lifelong dedication of G. M. Procuta.
