Kunitachi College of Music High School Choir Gives Charity Concerts to Support Sugihara Museum in Kaunas

Japanese youth show their respect to history and global responsibility.Prior to the departure for a concert tour in Lithuania later this week, a choir from High School of Kunitachi College of Music performed in Kokubunji city Izumi Hall to raise funds for the renovation of memorial museum for Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara in Kaunas, Lithuania, on March 17th. The Japanese vice-consul Sugihara issued transit visas for Jews fleeing Nazi persecution in Poland during World War II and saved more than 6000 lives. The former Japanese consulate building is open to public as Sugihara memorial museum. The aging building requires renovation. At the concert in Kokubunji, the Kunitachi College of Music High School choir  performed Rossini, Japanese folk and contemporary music and Lithuanian song by Gintautas Venislovas “Summer Bird”, lyrics  by Liutauras Degėsys. On the occasion of the concert, the Lithuanian ambassador to Japan extended greetings to the choir and the embassy representatives present at the concert expressed gratitude for the charity activities. The choir will visit Lithuania March 24th  to 27th.  The club will give charity concerts jointly with the leading Lithuanian choir “Brevis” in Congress Hall in Vilnius.  In Kaunas Philharmonic society the choir will perform with boys and youth choir “Varpelis” and string orchestra “Varpelis”.
