Kindhearted Japanese people continue to help Lithuanian children with cancer

A donation from Japan has reached the Childhood Cancer Fund RUGUTE in Lithuania again – at this time it was the wish of the Japanese composer and conductor Mr. Yuki Ando to donate half of the benefits received during the concert in Tokyo Opera City hall, which was dedicated to commemorate the composer‘s 25th anniversary of his career as the musician, to help the children with cancer in Lithuania.   Composer and conductor Mr. Yuki Ando revealed to the Embassy that this is for sure not the last gift he wants to give to the children struggling with cancer in Lithuania. Mr. Yuki Ando told that he is composing a song especially dedicated to the children and expressed his hope that they will have a chance to hear it in the very near future.   This was not the first time when the Japanese people give their helping hand and sincere kindness to the children with cancer in Lithuania. The inspiration was the documentary by the Lithuanian film director Arunas Matelis BEFORE FLYING BACK TO THE EARTH, which was showed in Tokyo two years ago. The film turned into the bridge of Friendship that united the hearts of the Japanese people and the youngest cancer fighters in Lithuania. In year 2006 the first delegation from Japan (Japan-Lithuania Friendship Association) visited the Children Oncohematology Unit at Kaunas Medical University Hospital. The members of the delegation presented the children with the origami cranes of hope, toys, they have also took part in the charity action to collect necessary money for buying a very expensive medicine necessary for the treatment of the 5 year-old boy. Another unique event took place in Vilnius in March, 2007 – more than 100 Japanese performers traveled to Lithuania on their own expense to give two performances for free in order to raise money to buy the necessary diagnostic equipment for the hospital in Kaunas.   The Choir lead by Mr. Yuki Ando was one of the participants of this unforgettable charity event. The members of the choir were among the biggest donators themselves. They had also presented the children with the thousands of origami paper cranes – the symbols of Hope.   We would like to express our deepest and most sincere appreciation to everybody who are so sincerely extending their helping hand and opening their kind hearts to the children who are in the most difficult struggle against cancer. We are deeply touched and extremely grateful to the composer Mr. Yuki Ando and his choir members, we are thankful to all the friends of Lithuania in Japan, whose letters and gifts to the children with cancer in Lithuania turn into their smiles, joy and the feeling that they have true and caring friends even in a far far away country – the country of the Rising Sun.   For more information about the Childhood Cancer Fund RUGUTE (mostly in Lithuanian) please visit http://www.rugute.lt (contact e-mail for English information: info@rugute.lt).   Photo: Composer Mr. Yuki Ando and the choir members presenting origami paper cranes during the charity event in Vilnius, 2007.
