JAPANESE TOURISTS ARE INVITED TO DISCOVER LITHUANIA

On 12 June the Lithuanian Embassy in Tokyo organized a special event for travel-loving Japanese people, who were informed about the opportunities of tourism and the most exciting places to visit in Lithuania. Furthermore, the national song and dance celebration tradition was presented during the event, paying special attention to the cultural values of Lithuania.

The guests were invited to participate in the Lithuanian Song and Dance Celebration, which will take place this summer from June 28th to July 6th.

This festival is seen as Great Lithuanian Cultural Olympics held every four years, which is even included into the UNESCO World Heritage list as to be an accredited world-line cultural worth.

Lithuania was described as a country famous not only for its amber jewellery and basketball achievements, but also as a place rich with tradition, natural and cultural treasures. The organisers of the event showed a few films about Lithuania, revealing its natural beauty and presenting the National Song and Dance Festival, which will unite all Lithuanians outside the country‘s borders while celebrating its 90th Anniversary this summer.

In preparation of this year's tourism season, the Lithuanian Embassy in Tokyo updated its publications in the Japanese language. In addition to this, the Embassy, together with the State Department of Tourism, is organizing a meeting with Asami Kuchio, one of the most famous Japanese chefs and travelers. She is writing a book about Lithuanian cuisine and customs, so her upcoming visit to Lithuania may provide a great opportunity to experience its culture and find out the differences of the regional Lithuanian dishes.

An article about this event, published in National Geographic magazine, introduced more Japanese people to the Lithuanian cold beet soup, called Šaltibarščiai, and other traditional Lithuanian dishes.

Information about Lithuania will be also published in popular Japanese tourism magazines „Skywards“ and „Arukikata“, whose representatives will be visiting Lithuania this summer as well.
