INVITATION TO THE SCREENINGS OF LITHUANIAN FILM "NARCISSUS" IN TOKYO
The Embassy is kindly inviting to see a Lithuanian film "Narcisuss" ("Narcizas") by Dovilė Gasiūnaitė at National Film Center in Tokyo on 8 Jun (Sun), 11AM and 13 Jun (Fri), 7PM. The director of the film will be present herself at the screening on 13 Jun and will have a Q-A session afterwards. So please do not miss this rare opportunity not only to enjoy Lithuanian cinema in Japan but also to meet one of its creators!!!
"Narcissus" was selected to represent Lithuanian cinematography at „EU Film Days 2014“ in Japan, which is taking place 30 May – 22 June. This festival is co-organised by the Delegation of the European Union to Japan, EU member states' embassies and cultural institutes in Japan, and the National Film Center, the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (NFC), with the intention to bring the best of European cinema to audiences in Japan. For the twelfth edition of EU Film Days, films from 23 EU Member will be shown at NFC.

Summary:
Narcissus (from Greek Narkissos) shares the root nark- with narcosis and narcotic. All these words have the same origin in the verb narkao - to intoxicate through a strong smell. In the modern interpretation of the ancient myth Teodore is a handsome and multiply gifted string quartet cello player who knows his own value. He draws people in, but ends up hurting them, yet he is impossible to resist. Teodore abandons his family, career, and friends in his quest for a true challenge. He has yet to find out that his greatest confrontation will be with himself.
