INFORMATION ABOUT VILNIUS JAPANESE GARDEN

The author of Vilnius Japanese garden idea is Kęstutis Ptakauskas, landscaping and bonsai master, an enthusiast of Japanese garden creation from Alytus. Together with JSC “Tokvila” (TOYOTA cars dealer) he suggested the idea to create a Japanese-style garden in Vilnius, similar to those which are in Japan and other countries in the world. The garden of such style must necessarily appear in Vilnius, Lithuania, which would extend the list of attractions, increase awareness of the country, and develop favourable opinion and impeccable image, develop and expand cultural ties of Lithuania and Japan.

The initiative to create Vilnius Japanese garden and the cooperation between Lithuania and Japan is also promoted and supported by Kazuko Shiraishi, an Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan in Lithuania.

The concept of Vilnius Japanese garden was developed by a world-class Japanese landscape architects, father and son Yukihiro Nakane and Shiro Nakane. Aforementioned concept of Vilnius Japanese garden was represented to the city municipality and of the public of Vilnius City Hall in spring 2013.

During the development of Vilnius Japanese garden, a new investment environment and the opportunity for Lithuanian business structures to participate in the garden implementation works will be created.

Vilnius Japanese garden will spread culture, love to the nature and true values, will develop aesthetic skills and create conditions for self-expression, creativity and education. A Japanese garden is unimaginable without various buildings constructed following the Japanese architectural canons. This is a tea house where traditional tea-making and drinking ceremonies take place, various statues, pagodas, lanterns, bridges, small waterfalls, gates, light construction Japanese -style building with public spaces for conferences, lectures and various events.

We expect that the solemn, occasional Vilnius Japanese garden opening ceremony and public presentation to the society will be held on 2-4 September 2016 during the V festival of Japanese culture and the world bonsai exhibition which will take place in Vilnius.

Preliminary estimate of Vilnius Japanese garden works is about 4 million Euros. Vilnius Japanese garden will be developed by private funds and money from sponsors.
