Inauguration of Ch. Sugihara monument in Nagoya

Ambassador G. Varvuolis participated in the unveiling ceremony of a monument to Chiune Sugihara in Nagoya. The monument was erected on the grounds of Mizuhogaoka Junior High School, where Sugihara studied. The event was attended by Nagoya Mayor T. Kawamura, other local authorities, the author of the monument, famous Japanese sculptor  M. Yamamoto, as well as Ch. Sugihara's granddaughters Madoka and Haruka, school management, students and the media.

In his speech, Ambassador noted the importance of Ch. Sugihara's heritage in Lithuanian-Japanese bilateral relations, talked about commemoration of the Sugihara Year in Lithuania in 2020 and about the inauguration of the analogous monument to Sugihara in Kaunas.
