IN TOKYO, LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER AND JAPANESE BUSINESS REPRESENTATIVES DISCUSS PROMOTION OF INVESTMENT IN LITHUANIA

On 12 March, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius, who is paying a working visit to Tokyo, met with Yoshimitsu Kobayashi, Chairman of Nippon Keidanren’s Committee on Europe and other representatives, and discussed issues related to promotion of Japanese investment in Lithuania as well as negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and Japan.

 

Japanese business representatives expressed their gratitude to Lithuania for its support to the negotiation process and confirmed their commitment to engage in a constructive dialogue.

At the meeting with leaders of Hitachi, the Minister thanked for the company’s participation in the new nuclear power plant project in Lithuania, which could be significant for finding a solution to strategic energy issues in the three Baltic States. L.Linkevičius informed that the Baltic Council of Ministers was responsible for analysis and submission of proposals with regard to open questions related to this project to heads of Governments.

The Minister was also the keynote speaker at a roundtable discussion “Lithuania and Japan: long term relationship in a globalised world” for Japanese diplomats and members of academic community. The participants of the discussion took great interest in the dynamics of bilateral relations and events in the Eastern Neighbourhood, especially in Ukraine.
