Important information on travel restrictions in Lithuania
The Lithuanian Government has placed the whole territory of the Republic of Lithuania under quarantine from March 16, 2020 at 00.00 o'clock until March 30, 2020.
As a consequence, restrictions of movement across the state border and within the country shall:
- be imposed on all persons arriving in the Republic of Lithuania, except for Lithuanian nationals and those who hold a valid Lithuanian residence permit;
- not be applied to foreign nationals leaving the country;
- be imposed on all persons traveling by air, rail and land;
- not be applied on movement of goods;
- be imposed on movement of people within the country, as certain restrictions on public transportation will be introduced;
- Traveling restrictions shall not apply to:
- foreign nationals who are family members of Lithuanian citizens;
- foreign nationals holding a permanent Lithuanian residence permit;
- foreign nationals holding a valid work permit allowing them to work in the Republic of Lithuania;
- foreign nationals holding a diplomatic status and members of their families;
- foreign nationals serving in military units of NATO and Allies.
Lithuanian citizens, with some exceptions, are banned from leaving the country, and foreigners will be banned from entering the country.
Arrival of foreign nationals in the Republic of Lithuania is prohibited, except for drivers and members of crews in case of commercial and/or international carriage of goods; residents of the Republic of Lithuania, diplomats, and military personnel of military units of NATO and NATO countries, their staff and members of their families.
Foreign nationals will be allowed to enter the territory of Lithuania until midnight, March 19 on condition they cross without indispensable stop.
Border crossing shall be allowed at the following international border crossing points: Kalvarija–Budzisko, Saločiai–Grenctāle, Būtingė–Rucava, Smėlynė–Medume, Medininkai–Kamenyj Log, Raigardas–Privalka, Kybartai–Chernyshevskoe, Panemunė–Sovietsk, Vilnius, Kaunas, Palanga, Šiauliai airports, and the Klaipėda State Seaport.
Movement of goods shall not be restricted.
The majority of shops shall be closed except for groceries and pharmacies.
Individuals are obliged to self-isolate after returning from abroad.
All gatherings held in open and closed spaces are suspended until March 27
All public institutions advised to switch to teleworking as much as possible.
Prohibitions to nationals of the Republic of Lithuania to leave the Republic of Lithuania is applied, except return to the places of residence or work and holders of a permit of the Head of the State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania or an authorised official.
