Honouring of Lithuania's Friends at the Embassy on the Occassion of the Day of Restoration of Country's Independence

On 12 March at the Embassy on the occasion of the Day of Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Lithuania a badge of honour "Carry Light within Your and Believe" of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania was presented to Mr. Kazuo Tsukuda, Chairman of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., Chairman of Operating Committee for 17th EU-Japan Fest for the significant contribution to the strengthening of cultural dialog between Lithuania and Japan. Ambassador Egidijus Meilūnas, who presented an award stressed, that the Lithuanian state holiday gives a perfect opportunity to thank and honour friends of Lithuania who supported the country and contributed to development of its international ties. In his turn Mr. K. Tsukuda expressed satisfaction that join cultural projects in Lithuania has been accomplished successfully and shared with his good memories of the trip to Lithuania in 2009. Vice Speaker of Lithuanian Parliament (Seimas) Petras Auštrevičius, who also attended the commemoration event, thanked Japan for the continuous support of Lithuania and wished for country’s successful recovery after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Mr. Hirofumi Nakasone, Chairman of the Japan-Lithuania Parliamentary Friendship Association, and Mr. Takashi Kawamura, Chairman of the Board of Hitachi, Chairman of Operating Committee for 20th EU-Japan Fest, in their speeches marked enlarging bilateral cooperation in various fields between Japan-Lithuania. Photos taken during Mr. Tsukuda’s visit in Lithuania in 2009 have also been put on display during the evening.  Politicians, representatives of cultural and business circles could also enjoy some Lithuanian and Japanese songs performed by the Children’s Choir “Little Phoenix” from Shimane prefecture. The choir took part in the International Youth Concert in 2009 during Vilnius – European Capital of Culture events in the St. Kotryna church. From the left: H.E. Ambassador or Latvia P.Vaivars, H.E.
