Birute Abraitiene, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Japan and Ambassador of Denmark, Franz-Michael Mellbin with other supporters arrived at summit of Mt. Fuji on 6 of August, 2009 in protest to nuclear proliferation at the time and the day of the Hiroshima bombing. Birute Abraitiene, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Japan made this statement at summit of Mt. Fuji: “With one-minute silence on the actual time of Hiroshima bombing we pay tribute to the victims of nuclear bombing. Hiroshima should never happen again! From the Summit of Mt. Fuji, the highest point and the symbol of Japan - from the depth of our hearts we are sending the message to International Community: “It is time to stop nuclear proliferation!” Today, commemorating nuclear bombing victims of Hiroshima we want to express our solidarity with the people around the world and the States what are seeking peace and stability on our fragile globe. We firmly stand here on a top of sacred Fuji to express our determination. When we come back to our offices and homes we will carry the treasure - spirit of utmost value of humanity.  We will better understand the necessity to protect, to stand for what is most treasured – peaceful and stabile growth of humanity. We determine ourselves to look for peaceful ways to resolve conflicts around the globe. We claim that diplomacy and negotiations should prevail.  Our efforts will be based on binding International treaties, we will seek universal acceptance of the Treaty on the Non Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) as well as wide ratification of CTBT - Treaty banning nuclear testing. We call for  NPT Review Conference of the treaty parties  planned on 2010 to strengthen international non-proliferation regime with the central role of the NPT the pursue of nuclear disarmament with the objective to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and the peaceful use of the atom. There is no need to speak about detrimental harm cost by use of nuclear weapons or testing – it is obvious and scientifically proved. Lithuania and Denmark as States of the European Union cannot stand passive facing danger of proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction and missiles. While fully recognizing the primary responsibility of the Security Council for the maintenance of international peace and security, we declare that the contribution of civil society in promoting non proliferation principals and objectives are invaluable. I want to thank all participants of this protest march against proliferation of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction. I congratulate everybody who reached the Summit of  Mt. Fuji –to send the message to the international community.”
