Commemoration of 13 January - the Day of the Defenders of Freedom at the Embassy
On 11 January, 3 PM (8 AM Lithuanian time) in the Embassy there were candles lit up in the memory of the united pursuit of Lithuanian people to protect the restored country’s independency 22 years ago and of tragically killed its defenders on 13 January of 1991. By this step the Embassy has joined the global public campaign "Memory is Alive through Testimony" which is initiated by the International Commission for the Nazi and Soviet Occupation Regimes in Lithuania. This year's action is the sixth. It was held for the first time in 2008. At a time it involved over 100 schools in Lithuania. Since 2010, the campaign "Memory is Alive through Testimony" is actively supported also by the Lithuanian public institutions: the Parliament, the Government, ministries and embassies abroad.
