Awarding ceremony for dr. Eiko Sakurai
On June 26, Ambassador Aurelijus Zykas presented dr. Eiko Sakurai with the Officers Cross of the Order for Merits to Lithuania.
Dr. Eiko Sakurai is the leading specialist of the Lithuanian language in Japan, a researcher and lecturer at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and Osaka University, author of Lithuanian language textbooks, numerous academic publications on Lithuanian politics, society, culture and literature, and a translator of fiction.
At the awards ceremony, dr. Sakurai received accolades from Keiko Numano, honorary professor at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, and Prof. Goro Christoph Kimura of Sophia University.
The ceremony was attended by the Honorary Consul General of Lithuania, Mr. Shigehiro Komaru, Honorary Consul Mr. Takeshi Okawara and Mrs. Merle Aiko Okawara, Former Ambassador to Lithuania Kazuko Shiraishi, other dignitaries, as well as colleagues to dr. Sakurai, her students and family members.
