Ambassador Gediminas Varvuolis expressed his gratitude to Japanese people for their support to Sugihara House in Kaunas
On September 28 at the Embassy of Lithuania in Tokyo ambassador Gediminas Varvuolis presented a letter of appreciation to Japan Lithuania Friendship association and a group of friends of music, who under the leadership of the authors of Sugihara Opera Mr Yuki Ando and Ms Yuri Shinada, initiated a grassroots crowdfunding project and collected financial support for the benefit of Sugihara House in Kaunas.
More than 150 Japanese citizens contributed to the campaign, and the financial support raised amounted to 900.000 Japanese yen. The support comes at a difficult time of global coronavirus pandemic, which severely affected Sugihara House as the flow of visitors to the museum has stopped. President of JALFA Mr Seiichi Mizuno, on behalf of the association, thanked for this recognition and expressed determination to work together on future projects.
