Ambassador G. Varvuolis attended DORA theatre's play "SEMPO SUGIHARA"

On September 22, ambassador Gediminas Varvuolis attended DORA theatre's play SEMPO SUGIHARA ", which tells the story of Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara, who saved Jewish refugees in 1940 Kaunas.

The play was performed at Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre and supported by the Lithuanian Embassy. In his appreciation message to this event ambassador G. Varvuolis noted that Chiune Sugihara is an extraordinary historical personality. His "visas for life" saved more than 6,000 Jewish refugees. Today, Sugihara's heritage, as an example of humanism and courage, continues to exist and has helped to establish many friendship and cooperation relations between Lithuania and Japan.

This year we commemorate the 80th anniversary of "visas for life" issued by Chiune Sugihara and the 120th anniversary of his birth. Lithuanian Parliament (Seimas) has declared 2020 the year of Chiune Sugihara.
