Ambassador A. Zykas lecture at Kobe Gakuin University
On December 13, Ambassador A. Zykas met with the President of Kobe Gakuin University, Mr. Masami Sato, and later, at the invitation of prof. Yoshihiko Okabe, he gave a lecture about Lithuania.
In his lecture, he focused mainly on the changing geopolitical situation in Europe and the role of NATO's eastern flank countries in protecting the world order based on international rules. The ambassador also touched on Lithuania's initiatives in supporting and rebuilding Ukraine, including the demining coalition initiative.
Kobe is a city closely related to the story of Chiune Sugihara, who in 1940 saved thousands of Jews in Lithuania. The rescued Jews settled in Kobe, sometimes even for several years. Before World War II, Kobe had one of the largest Jewish communities in Japan.
