Lithuania opens its fifth Honorary Consulate in Japan
On 24 May, Lithuania opened its Honorary Consulate in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Takeshi Okawara, Head of JC Comsa Corporation, was appointed as the Honorary Consul of Lithuania.
The Ambassador Gediminas Varvuolis presented him a consular patent and expressed gladness that the new Honorary Consul was a great friend of Lithuania and a well-respected entrepreneur in Japan, who actively developed business and cultural ties with Lithuania. Japan's Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Akiba Takeo also sent a congratulations letter.
The Honorary Consulates of Lithuania also operate in Fukuyama, Sapporo, Osaka, and Gifu.
On 23 May, Lithuania opened its Honorary Consulate in Sapporo after a year-long pause. Masahiro Fujii was appointed as the Honorary Consul of Lithuania in Hokkaido, Japan‘s largest prefecture. The Ambassador Gediminas Varvuolis presented him a consular patent.
First regional meeting of Lithuanian Honorary Consuls from Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia countries took place in Melbourne on 30-31 March.
On 21 December, the Ambassador of Lithuania to Malaysia Gediminas Varvuolis officially opened Lithuania‘s 1st Honorary Consulate in Malaysia, Petaling Jaya, and presented a consular patent to the new Honorary Consul of Lithuania Mr Tai Boon Tatt.
