Kaunas and Vilnius now both speak Japanese
A new expanded version of the Sugihara route has just been published. We had no idea the project would outgrow Kaunas when we first published the Japanese-language map dedicated to the legacy of diplomat Chiune Sugihara in September’2016. The map has been since published in English and Lithuanian, too (just in time for the Sugihara Week, our top recommendation this September).
The great people at Go Vilnius – the official development agency of the City of Vilnius – liked the Sugihara map as much as the Japanese tourists do (Sugihara House tells us they love it!); to make the long story short, Kaunas IN and Go Vilnius have collaborated on a double Japanese-language map that features Kaunas on side A and Vilnius on side B.
The Kaunas part is the Sugihara Route plus the most interesting and valuable objects and places in the city; the Vilnius side presents the UNESCO-protected Old Town, museums, Lithuanian cuisine restaurants, traditional workshops and some of the loveliest boutiques in the capital.
The map was illustrated by Asta Didžiokaitė, a super-talented Kaunas based artist that also created the original Kaunastic map, the Christmas Capital edition and the Kaunas Gastro Guide. We hope to continue working with her in the future!
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius continues his working visit to Japan. He visited the Chiune Sugihara Memorial Museum Memorial Museum in Yaotsu – the home town of the Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara.
