Japanese most loved places in Lithuania, culinary and folk crafts in focus at Embassy’s tourism promotion events
On April 24th Lithuanian Embassy in Tokyo together with Japanese partners “World Air-Sea Service Co., Ltd.” and “Foresight Marketing Co., Ltd.” held two tourism promotion workshops for more than 40 Japanese, interested in travelling to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
Addressing Embassy’s guests, Ambassador Gediminas Varvuolis stressed that despite the large geographic distance between the two countries, Lithuanians and Japanese share similar values, such as freedom, democracy and respect for human rights. In addition, bilateral relations are developing rapidly in political, economic, business, scientific, cultural, people-to-people fields. Japan’s growing interest in Lithuania is also reflected in the ever-increasing flow of Japanese tourists, visiting Lithuania: in 2016, Lithuania welcomed 24.8 thousand Japanese (almost 10% more than in 2015), and in January-September of 2017 – 18.6 thousand.
The participants of both workshops were introduced to various famous Lithuanian tourism spots – Vilnius Old Town and the Hill of Crosses, both included UNESCO heritage list, Trakai, the memorial museum of the legendary Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara, seaside region, spa tourism in Druskininkai, Birštonas. Many were interested in Lithuanian culinary traditions, folk crafts, amber and linen products.
