Ambassador G. Varvuolis attended Regional Honorary Consuls meeting in Melbourne
First regional meeting of Lithuanian Honorary Consuls from Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia countries took place in Melbourne on 30-31 March.
Honorary Consuls, their assistants and candidates for Honorary Consul post from Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines and Singapore, discussed relevant issues of Honorary Consuls activities, Lithuanian diaspora, promotion of Lithuania export and investment in Lithuania.
Participants, Lithuanian and Australian academics, as well as Lithuanian community members, took part in round table discussion “Geopolitical changes in Indo-Pacific Region: Influence of China and Russia, challenges for Europe”.
The regional meeting of Lithuanian Honorary Consuls was organised by Lithuanian Embassy in Tokyo together with Lithuanian Honorary Consul General in Melbourne and assistance of Honorary Consuls in Australia, Melbourne Lithuanian Club and Lithuanian community.
On 24 May, Lithuania opened its Honorary Consulate in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Takeshi Okawara, Head of JC Comsa Corporation, was appointed as the Honorary Consul of Lithuania.
On 23 May, Lithuania opened its Honorary Consulate in Sapporo after a year-long pause. Masahiro Fujii was appointed as the Honorary Consul of Lithuania in Hokkaido, Japan‘s largest prefecture. The Ambassador Gediminas Varvuolis presented him a consular patent.
Lithuanian Embassy in Japan is organising a consular mission to Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane (Australia) on 15 – 30 May 2019.
On 21 December, the Ambassador of Lithuania to Malaysia Gediminas Varvuolis officially opened Lithuania‘s 1st Honorary Consulate in Malaysia, Petaling Jaya, and presented a consular patent to the new Honorary Consul of Lithuania Mr Tai Boon Tatt.
